Ian Poulter Makes The Final - Who Will He Play?

Sunday, 21st February, 2010

IAN POULTER def. SERGIO GARCIA 7 and 6 Scorecard

The Englishman posted the most decisive semifinal win in Accenture Match Play history, trouncing his Ryder Cup teammate to reach the championship finals for the first time in seven career starts. The margin of victory was also the most decisive in the 24 matches Poulter has played in this event.

"He played awesome," Garcia said. "He played unbelievable. He made everything he looked at and I just wasn't up for the challenge."Poulter sporting the new Footjoy myjoy golf shoes never trailed after being conceded the first hole when Garcia found the native area with his second shot. The horrible weather conditions eventually caused a temporary halt in play, and Garcia never found his game. His tee shot at the par-3 third found the middle of the pond that guards the green, his grip slipping as he hit the ball.

Meanwhile, Poulter heated up, hitting the new King Cobra 2010 clubs with six birdies over an eight-hole stretch. The only slip came when Poulter's approach shot at the seventh landed under a bush to the right of the green. After a lengthy rules discussion -- Poulter wanted relief due to a TV tower in between his ball and the green -- he eventually bogeyed the hole.

But Poulter in his latest Ian Poulter clothing bounced back in a big way, winning the next four holes with birdies and never giving Garcia an opening. After a great up-and-down for birdie at the par-5 11th, Poulter was 6 up.

"It was nice to get out there and get up early on Sergio," Poulter said. "...I hit a lot of good golf shots and a lot of birdies and made it difficult on Sergio."

But will it be a all ENGLISH final?
